EC entry Food for thought

Since we’ve been talking about food lately, after watching Fresh, I decided to check out another documentary called "Food Inc. And honestly? My brain feels like it got flipped upside down. I had no idea the food industry in America was this messed up. If you haven’t seen it, the film basically shows how a lot of our food is made behind the scenes, and it’s not pretty.

Food Inc. breaks down some pretty shocking stuff. It talks about how meat is mass produced in horrible conditions, how big corporations basically control farmers, and how the government just kind of lets it happen. One thing that surprised me was how much corn is used in our food, it’s literally in EVERYTHING. Like, why is corn in soda?

The part that hit me the hardest was how animals are treated. They're packed into tiny spaces, treated badly, and then killed in really upsetting ways. And it’s not just sad it’s also kind of gross. We're eating food that comes from places with almost no concern for hygiene or ethics. There’s a part where It shows the mass produced chickens growing so fast that they can barely even take a few steps without collapsing. There is also a part with a mom talking about her young son dying from E. coli after eating a simple cheeseburger. These parts really stuck with me.

The documentary also dives into how companies like Monsanto pressure farmers and take over the seed market. It’s honestly wild how just a few big companies control so much of our food supply, while most of us have no idea.

What really stood out to me is that this isn’t just a food problem, It’s a people problem. Workers are treated badly, the environment is suffering, and we’re all just kind of left in the dark thinking we’re making good choices at the store when really, it’s all just coming from the same 3- 4 places. Is it easier to not think about any of this? Yeah. But should we care? I think we should. Even just knowing what’s going on is a good first step. We can’t change everything overnight, but we can start asking questions, being more aware, and supporting better food practices when we can.

Overall, Food Inc. really opened my eyes. It definitely made me think twice about what’s on my plate and I think that’s a good thing.

*Fun fact, There is now a "Food Inc. 2" that I found on Amazon Prime, Go check it out! I know I will!
